I Choose the Island
This work carries the quiet courage of choosing solitude over what hurts. It came after a time when I realized that staying in what diminishes you is far lonelier than being truly alone. It can feel like a deserted island — empty at first, but ultimately safer than staying where you can’t breathe.
The painting holds a vivid terracotta accent — a bright, textured mark that became my symbol of that island. A place that, at first, felt lonely and quiet, but slowly turned into sacred ground for healing and rediscovery.
It’s about learning to be with yourself — to sit in that stillness long enough to feel your own rhythm again. Sometimes the bravest thing we can do is choose the island, and trust that life will bring the tide back when we’re ready.
